As a parent, all you want is to ensure your child's health and safety, but sometimes, some things are out of your control.
Whether your child gets sick, gets hurt while they're out of your sight, if they make decisions that hurt them in their future, or if they're born with it, anything negative in your child's life is heartbreaking to deal with as a parent.
For Shaniya's parents, there was nothing they could have changed about her health, because she was born with it. When they started realizing that something was wrong, they took their daughter to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. They did not find cancer in Shaniya's body, but instead found something else corrupting her body in her cells.
When her parents realized what was going on. They realized that she was going to have a rough life from here on out because she would have to deal with this health issue for the rest of her life. But Shaniya did not want to think of herself that way. She was determined to be as normal and healthy as she could be. Then, when Shaniya reached high school, she decided to share her story and battle with what they found in her cells when she was just 5 years old.
