Science Says That Youngest Siblings Are Actually The Funniest (And They Definitely Know It)

Every time I get together with my whole family, we have a great time. Sure, there's a lot of yelling and arguing, but there's also a ton of laughing.

Once we've all caught up on one another's lives, we start joking with each other (and making fun of each other, of course).

The person who makes us laugh the most, though, is without a doubt my younger brother.

Being an older sister comes with a lot of responsibility, but it's a complete joy to watch my little brother become a full-fledged adult.

As he's grown up, he's gotten funnier and funnier, and I thought that was just the way it was in my family — but apparently, youngest siblings are actually the funniest.

It's true! A poll conducted by UK research firm YouGov in 2015 explains that youngest siblings are often funnier than their older brothers and sisters.

Who's the funniest one in your family?

If you're like most, you may have noticed that the baby is usually the goofiest out of your siblings.

Researchers at YouGov studied the stereotypes of siblings — like that older siblings are more organized and successful, and that younger siblings are funnier and more laid back — and found not only that some of these stereotypes are true, but also that we all recognize it.

The study explains:

It turns out to be true that the oldest child in a family feels a greater weight of responsibility, while the youngest child feels a higher level of breathing room.

Additionally, younger siblings perceive themselves are funnier than their older siblings, as well as more relaxed and easy-going.

In fact, 46% of younger kids polled said they were the funniest of their siblings.

So why exactly do people feel that these stereotypes fit them?

Well, the first child often feels more pressure from their parents to succeed, while the last child may get extra attention as the "baby" of the family.

Need more evidence to support the theory that youngest siblings are the funniest?

Tina Fey, Eddie Murphy, Steve Martin, Jim Carrey, and Ellen DeGeneres are all younger or youngest siblings!
