Zariah just turned 1 year old. Most babies are blissfully spitting up mashed peas and smearing birthday cake all over themselves at this point in their lives.
However, Zariah spent the entire year in the hospital, as she was born incredibly prematurely at just 24 weeks. Doctors and nurses kept up hope that she would make it through, even though the chances were extremely small.
This little one was a fighter though, and her chances of making it to toddlerhood and beyond have surmounted all the way to 96 percent. That is truly incredible given her unsure beginnings in this world.
Now that she is doing better, it's time for one of her parents to return home and care for her older sister. It's not going to be easy for this family to separate from each other, but it's something that they have to do.
But, there is one thing that these parents think will help make them feel closer, even states away from each other: getting married.
While all of this was happening, there was so much attention focused on Zariah and her health, that there wasn't time to think about the next steps in Mom and Dad's relationship. Now is the most perfect time to take that next step.
Where did they take that step? Right in the hospital, next to Zariah's bedside, of course!
I wish only the best for this family, and for Zariah, too, to follow home as soon as she is healthy enough so that this family can be one again.
