I've said it before and I'll say it again: My generation had its fair share of problems, but I would never want to grow up in today's world.
Even though people all over have taken a stand against bullying and made efforts to spread acceptance, our world is still a confusing place. No one knows this more than a child who feels like they were born in the wrong body.
When I was growing up, you didn't hear the word "transgender" very often, so it's pretty incredible people like celebrity and Olympic athlete Bruce Jenner have shared their own stories to help those still struggling in their own bodies. However, as you'll see in this next story, talking about the topic can also help families and friends of transgender children understand that it's not just a phase they go through.
Meet Zay. She's a bright, fun, and beautiful 12-year-old girl who was born a boy, "Isaiah." Just like this brave little boy who shared his story with the world, Zay's parents wanted to share their family's journey in understanding, accepting, and embracing Zay for Zay. I say family, because at the end of the day, Zay didn't become who she is today on her own.
Her parents' love, support, and guidance went a long way and they're a great example of how more people should take on difficult situations.
