Dusty Old Armoire Is Transformed Into An Adorable Barn-Shaped Chicken Coop

Keeping and caring for chickens is so much fun for a number of reasons.

Chickens are endlessly beneficial to your backyard, eating away at pests and producing manure that makes amazing fertilizer.

They also are a great way for families to learn about farming, where their food comes from, and how animals play a vital role in our environment and economy — oh, and did we mention free eggs?

New chicken caretakers may be wondering where to start when it comes to building their coops, while seasoned chicken pros may be looking for cool new ways to house their feathery family.

Fortunately, once you have all of the proper safety and feeding materials in place, coops can be made out of so many things.

Depending on the number and size of the chickens, coops can be fashioned from small unused furniture — they can even be made from other coops!

This particular chicken keeper even fashioned an old armoire into the most adorable little barn-themed chicken hut!

This chicken owner had an ingenious idea when it came to repurposing an old armoire.

Using some bright paint and some cleverly placed alfalfa, she fashioned a beautiful barn for their coop.

Placed inside a larger chicken-friendly structure, the transformed hutch added an extra room for them to wander in and out of.

It also provided a little bit more shade or shelter depending on the weather.

The armoire was painted a bright red color with white lines, and a little folded roof to mirror what a barn would look like.

In addition to the paint job, a little chicken ramp was also installed along the side so that the flightless birds could walk in and out.

The big open space inside was also replaced with fluffy trays of alfalfa and different levels for them to explore.

The little barn definitely adds a lot of personalization and pizzazz to the coop.

Even without a bright, beautiful paint job, other armoires make great, multilayered additions to coops or other enclosures for farm animals.

And there are also plenty of other ways to turn old home relics into fun furniture for a coop.

It can even be as simple as turning an old toy house that your kids have outgrown into a hut your chicks will love.

Successful chicken structures don't have to be premade, either.

This cool circular coop was made using leftover giant wire spools!

Another piece of furniture that can go to the hens have your children outgrown them are slatted cribs.

With a little bit of chicken wire and a ramp, it makes the perfect little hideaway for them.
