When someone buys a new home, they usually buy it because they love it — but that doesn’t mean they necessarily love everything inside the house.
Occasionally, the former owner of the home made some weird design decisions or neglected to update certain aspects, like this one house that had a really outdated kitchen.
However, these updates can be costly. That’s why so many people embark on DIY projects. It helps them either modernize their homes or helps them to personalize their space and make it a reflection of who they are.
Reddit user bleedscarlet decided to do that when she bought a new home and was not happy with the closet space in her hallway: It was awkwardly designed and the appearance of it was outdated and dull.
She decided to take matters into her own hands and create something exquisite to fix, update, and make the closets uniquely her own.
Best part? You’ll never believe what her inspiration was. A hint? Let’s just say that finding other doors like this out there is like finding a needle in a haystack…
This is what their original hallway closets looked like. The homeowners didn’t love the way they looked.
But what really annoyed them was inside the closet. “The previous owners expanded the bathroom but never reframed the closet, so there's this area of about two-feet that's essentially useless inside the closet,” they said.
So they decided to dismantle the closet.
Then they built a new wall.
Next they dry-walled the space.
After the useless space was fixed, they decided to reframe the closets.
Then they sanded everything up and got ready to start the part that makes this project so unique and cool.
She then sanded down a piece of plywood.
Once smooth, the plywood was painted red.
Then it was fitted with a frame.
Next some hardware was painted.
The new doors for the closet were assembled and then got a second coat of paint.
The hardware was then placed on the doors.
Next, they put the doors over the closet space.
Once the new barn doors were in place, there was just a one more thing to do...
They got some matching floor molding for the bottom of the hallway.
And ta-da! They were done! Their new closet barn doors were totally complete.
Who knew outside decor would look so nice inside?
Please SHARE if you’d love to have these barn doors in your home!
