Claire is usually an organized person, but lately the mother of two little girls has been feeling overwhelmed. It seems the little ones have run amuck with clutter. The task of organizing their room seemed insurmountable. Claire asked for help from the Organised Housewife's Katrina, who took one look at the room and knew exactly what she had to do.
Katrina quickly identified that the girls just had too many toys. First, they organized three bins: rubbish, sell, keep. This way, they could quickly establish what they could get rid of and what they wanted to hold onto. Next, they got storage bins and shelf organization that reduced the mess on the floor. Katrina came up with a genius idea to reduce the mess of toys: she created a rotating toy system. Create separate bins with groups of toys. Keep one bin out for a couple of months. After enough time has passed, put that bin away and reintroduce a new one. This way, kids who are young enough to barely notice feel like they are getting brand-new toys. Meanwhile, Mommy's wallet has saved a ton and all that toy clutter is gone.
Claire is now able to feel at ease while her children play instead of overwhelmed by the mess they make.
