DIY Summerhouse Offers The Ultimate In Backyard Relaxation

Upcycling used materials for a DIY project can be a huge money-saver.

When Instructables user rosemarybeetle decided he wanted to build his backyard a relaxing summerhouse, the only budget he could muster was tight. So, this crafty creator turned to upcycling as his main construction materials resource.

This upcycler spent two solid months collecting all of his building materials. He scrounged up all sorts of amazing finds from timber boards to plywood. He even found a set of forgotten French doors!

Then, he spent an additional two months constructing his custom-built summerhouse. This builder created an awesome, hexagonally shaped, wooden structure using all of his incredible finds.

All in all, this entire project only cost this handy upcycler around $50 total, and will surely return that value and then some as home to all of his and his friends' fondest summertime memories.

When Instructables user rosemarybeetle decided to build his yard a new summerhouse, he chose early on not to spend much in the way of money on this project.

Instead, he spent two months of his time slowly perusing junkyards, garage sales, littered street corners, and the like.

He was searching for hidden gems among the discarded furniture his neighbors were tossing away — items he might be able to repurpose.

While he built up his material supply, this DIY-er also began digging a spot for his summerhouse to live in his backyard.

Once he'd curated a sufficient build materials supply, this upcycler framed and built his summerhouse's foundational base.

He used the majority of the plywood he was able to scavenge on this foundation, to ensure his summerhouse was rooted on a sound base.

Once his structure's base was set in place, he began framing out its walls.

He used triangulation braces to hold his frame in place during the building process.

He finished the project off with cladding, and added a few lovely plants scattered all over this structure's perimeter.

As most upcycling projects go, this builder did have to augment his initial design plan a bit to accommodate the materials he was able to find.

However, these adjustments only added to the shed's character — another plot point along this structure's origin story.
