When Imgur DIY-er JamesonRoss recently bought his new home, it came with this old, grimy dog lot in the backyard.

He soon decided to tear this lot down to make way for an exciting new yard feature — an awesome fire pit.

He tore down the old dog lot and started bringing his fire pit and seating area to life by creating its brick perimeter.

These bricks would differentiate the fire pit area from the rest of the yard.

Once the bricks were in place, he turned his attention to the dirt base supporting his fire pit's seating area.

In order to achieve a level surface, this DIY-er smoothed out the existing dirt.

Next, he covered the fire pit area in a plastic tarp.

This protective tarp would preserve the integrity of the underlying dirt base.

Atop the tarp, he laid rocks.

When laying rocks around a fire pit like this, it's crucial to use either lava rocks or fire glass. Other materials can be hazardous.
