Upcycling can make any DIY project even more satisfying.
There is something so incredible about transforming old and useless junk into something new and cool, like these upcycled ladder ideas. This creativity when it comes to DIY projects can lead to some of the most amazing home additions.
So when I spotted this truly unique upcycle, I knew I had to share it.
I found this brilliant project on Instructables, where one clever DIYer created a gorgeous dining room table from old, upcycled wood. Like many others have done, he used unwanted pallets for part of his materials. But my favorite part? He also upcycled 102-year-old floorboards to make the surface of the table.
His one-of-a-kind dining room table is not only homemade, but it now holds a little bit of his home's history as well. What do you think of what this DIYer created? Let us know in the comments!
To create a pallet and floorboard dining room table, this creative DIYer started by stripping almost all of the wood from two different pallets.
He then screwed them together to form the main part of the table.
He cut and attached four wooden legs just inside the corners of the pallets.
Then, finally, he got to using the 102-year-old floorboards. He laid them out like a puzzle and attached them to the pallet frame.
He had to clean up a lot of the boards as some of them were looking a little battered from years of being walked on.
He then flipped the entire table over. He added support beams under the floorboards, then covered the whole underside with pallet boards.
He used a sander to make sure that all of the boards were even before applying a coat of wood stain.
This DIYer also added a wooden strip around the whole outside of the table to create a beautiful border.
Not fully satisfied with the stain as it was, he added this slightly different coat, giving the table a more unique and weathered feel.
Finally, he gave the table a glossy finish by using a layer of poxy resin.
And just like that, his old pallets and floorboards were completely transformed into a stunning dining room table.
This creative project not only added a rustic flair to his home, but it preserved a little piece of his home's history right in the table.
This unique upcycle has incredibly given new life to battered, 102-year-old floorboards.
