She Glues Crayons To A Pumpkin, Then Melts Them To Make A Colorful Halloween Decoration

Carving pumpkins is a fun Halloween tradition, but with this craft, there’s no need to bother with messy pumpkin "guts.” That, and there are the sharp tools that make it difficult for kids to get involved.

For me, finding an alternative to carving pumpkins is important. That’s why these crayon pumpkins are a great way to get the kids who aren't able to carve intricate pumpkin masterpieces (yet,) involved with decorating for Halloween.

It’s a fun way to add stylish, creative, and fun touches to fall decorating that the kids will love!

From my experience, it’s best to use a beautiful, medium white craft pumpkin, and be sure to buy a new set of crayons for this crafting project.

Before you begin the project, you should necessarily remove the labels from your Crayola crayons, or you’ll risk ruining your pumpkin.

If you make more than one pumpkin, it’s fun to change the initial color sequence. The more colorful the mess, the more interesting your final project will look.

Check out the step-by-step tutorial below.

Materials:

1. Gather the colored crayons you want to use for the pumpkin. Remove any excess wrapper paper.

2. Hot glue the crayons to the very top of the craft pumpkin.

Continue the whole way around, as shown, and alternate colors. I choose to pick a color palette for each pumpkin that alternated from dark to light, so the colors would really pop at the end.

I did one pumpkin with orange hues, another with green and yellows, and a final one with purples, blues and blacks.

3. After the glue has dried, use a hair dryer to melt the crayons.

Patience is the key, but when these crayons start melting, they’ll create a beautiful masterpiece as the colors run down the sides of the pumpkin. I started the hair dryer on a lower setting, just to get them heated up, but once I kicked it up to the highest setting, the crayons took off!

*Note: Be careful of possible splashing. I made sure to put paper towels down to make the cleanup easier.

You can heat these crayons as long as you want until you get your desired look.

How gorgeous does this look?

I really love how vibrant these colors look and have been getting lots of compliments from guests who come by the house.
