When I was a kid, I always wanted to have a treehouse. There seemed to be something really amazing about living high up with a bird's-eye view.
As an adult, I would still love to live in a grown-up version of a treehouse, like this amazing tiny home in a tree. So when I saw the incredible house one man from New Zealand built, I knew I had to see more!
Jono Williams always wanted to build a sleek, modern treehouse, so he came up with a beautiful plan for a structure in the sky. Only, he decided that maybe a tree wasn't the best place for it. Instead, he would go on to create a huge steel column that his tiny house would sit on top of.
For years, his designs were just a mere dream. But now, he has made that dream a reality.
Jono's home is called the Skysphere and stands 33 feet tall. When I saw the finished product, I was absolutely blown away. This ultimate DIY project is perfect for anyone like me who grew up wanting a home up in the trees.

From an early age, Jono always liked to make things — so one day, this designer put his passion to work and turned his dreams into reality.
Jono began to build his ultimate fantasy: a sky home. "Initially my plan was to build some sort of structure in a tree or between multiple trees…" But then he thought, "Why not support the structure by a huge steel column that you can fix virtually anywhere?"
Jono began his incredible DIY tiny house project with big ideas in mind. "Basically, I had the concept in mind and then I had no idea how to actually build it, but what I did was I took small steps at a time."
Jono took out a small loan from the bank, as the structure would cost about $50,000 to construct.
Jono's plan included a ladder in the large steel column so that he could reach his sky home. "My initial plan was to use a hydraulic ram that goes down into the ground, with a lift on it. I didn't do this because of the added cost and personally, I don't mind the ladder."
He writes that in order to get things up into the sphere that he uses a rope and pulley system. "The tube is also quite large so you can get up wearing a large backpack."
For his interior, he wanted to have all of the modern comforts of a regular home, making it completely state-of-the-art.
His home would include custom-made rounded furniture, a projector, a drink dispenser built into his couch, and his entire home could be controlled by his smartphone.
After putting in a massive 3,000 hours of work, his new tiny home in the sky was complete.
The sphere features LED lighting in multiple colors including red, blue and green.
He writes, "I'm particularly proud of my 360 degree window. Too many times I've seen treehouses with the really small windows and I'm like, 'What's the point building something in a tree when you can't appreciate the surroundings?' "
Jono's home includes a comfy queen sized bed, but doesn't currently include a bathroom. "I plan to build a small bathroom in the trees near the tower. [Version 2] may well have plumbing."
And as if his home weren't already high-tech enough, Jono installed solar panels to the top of the sphere so that his entire home could be powered by the sun.
Jono's Skysphere has received a large amount of interest from people wanting one for themselves. "I had no idea so many people would want one; I built the Skysphere...without the intention of selling. Who knows, they may be for sale in the future!"
This 33-foot-tall, 270-square-foot tiny house in the sky is certainly one of the most beautiful and unique DIY tiny houses in the world.
