Hide Your Spare Key With This Fake Rock DIY

We've all been there. You're at your door finally after a long day at work, excited to flop on the couch and unwind, and you begin to dig through your bag for your house keys.

But suddenly, you realize they're not there. Pouring everything out of your bag and checking every possible pocket, you remember where you left them this morning as you rushed off to start your day: inside your house.

We all have special hiding spots for our spare keys: on the door frame, under a potted plant, beneath the welcome mat — but these are very common places that burglars know to check.

That's why this genius DIY project is one of my favorites! Not only will it save you money on a locksmith, but it's also a unique and secure place that burglars won't think to think.

To start off, he gathered his supplies. He used water, a foam brush, and concrete sealer.

He also used spray olive oil, cling wrap, and concrete mix.

He added water to the concrete mix, forming it into a lump that resembles a rock.

He placed the key on the cling wrap and sprayed it with olive oil to keep it from sticking to the concrete.

Then, he placed the concrete in the cling wrap. He pushed the key into the side of the concrete rock, and allowed the cling wrap to smooth out the rock's texture.

After letting the rock dry for a day or so, the key was partially covered by concrete.

He used a knife to then pry out the key, while leaving the indent of the key behind.

The key sticks perfectly into the indent left behind!

Place the rock somewhere around your house. Try to arrange pebbles around it so it looks natural!
