Turn An Uncomfy Chair Into The Comfiest One Ever With Tennis Balls

Sometimes, pairing the most seemingly unrelated materials together can produce the most exciting DIY masterpieces.

When Instructables user wholman needed a new, comfortable, and supportive chair, he began dreaming up all sorts of inventive designs.

In time, he settled on an upcycling initiative. He would transform an old chair into an ergonomic masterpiece by ripping out its cushions and replacing them with tennis balls.

Situated in specially designed wooden frames, these tennis balls would act as the chair's new, free-form cushions. Via his expert craftsmanship, this builder would house his tennis balls in such a way that they'd each be able to dent, expand, move, and contour at will to best suit the body type of the human sitting atop them.

When Instructables user wholman needed a new comfortable chair, but didn't have any big bucks to spend on a high-end design, he turned to his upcycling prowess for inspiration.

This builder decided he'd refurbish an old chair into something new and improved, using tennis balls as ergonomic supports.

He started his project by unscrewing his old chair's original cushions from their frames.

Next, he fashioned new, double-layer wooden seats, each built to hold 25 different tennis balls.

To keep the tennis balls in place, this builder crafted each seat piece's top layer with holes slightly larger than a tennis ball's diameter.

The bottom layers, on the other hand, boasted slightly smaller holes, making way for these boards to affectively catch and hold each ball in place.

This ingenius design technique eliminated any need to secure the balls to the chair via screws or the like.

Without screws, the balls became free to shift, flex, and move to best suit the body type of the individual seated atop them.

This freedom eliminated any specific pressure points from forming along the chair's surface, thereby making the new piece of furniture completely comfortable.
