There is something very satisfying about creating a project on your own.
I don't tackle DIY projects often, but moving into my first house has certainly opened up the door to many obstacles and opportunities that require me to figure out how to do things myself.
The internet has been a great resource for me when I'm in a bind or I'm not quite sure how to begin a project and need fresh ideas. There are plenty of examples of DIY-ers that are able to turn trash into treasure with just a few simple steps.
And when I stumbled on this clever idea for a DIY wine bottle floor lamp, I couldn't wait to share it!
Scroll through below to see how one DIY-er managed to turn a bunch of empty wine bottles into the conversation piece of his living room, and let us know what you think of this incredible project in the comments!
[H/T: Instructables]
After accumulating a number of wine bottles, this DIY-er decided to search online for ideas, but he couldn't find anything that really piqued his interest.
He decided to make plans of his own to use the bottles for a floor lamp!
He began with the base. Using a Dremel rotary tool, he cut out two perfect circles.
The floor lamp's pole runs up the center, so he had to make a hole in the center of the circular base.
He made sure to measure it exactly so once the copper piping went in, it would fit snugly.
In order to work up to his second level, he set four wine bottles on top of the base level and carefully placed a second wooden circle on top.
He then traced a circle around each bottle for accuracy.
Each wine bottle neck would rest in the four shallow holes he created. This would allow for much more stability once all the pieces were fitted together.
In order for the lamp pole to extend through the length of the piece, the DIY-er removed the bottoms off of his wine bottles.
He repeated this process until he was left with a single bottle on the fourth level of the lamp.
Again, he cut a hole through both the wooden base and the wine bottle to allow the lamp pole to go through the center.
Before assembling the pieces together, he stained and finished each piece of wood.
The result gives off a nice satin finish.
After that, he peeled all the labels off of each wine bottle using some soap and water and a little big of Goo Gone.
The label-less wine bottles would give the lamp a consistent look.
After shining up the copper using very fine steel wool, he began to assemble his project!
The hardware, cord, and lamp kit were also installed at this stage.
Finally, he topped it off with a nice lamp shade and his project was complete!
The outcome adds a unique flair to his living room.
