Yesterday, I was determined to do a little crafting and decorating. I didn't want to spend all day on a craft (who has time for that?!), but I wanted it to make something special that would look amazing and freshen up my home decor.
I wanted something that was evergreen and could last me through every season. I decided to make my very own chalkboard welcome sign out of wood slice and black chalkboard paint.
Not only is it simple, this chalkboard sign makes great rustic decor. Plus, it includes the practicality of a chalkboard. I got the inspiration after seeing similar ideas at weddings and parties.
It's such a great way to welcome guests into my home — and with the holidays coming up, I'll have plenty of family and friends stopping by.
It has a great festive fall feel to it, but it's a piece that will look great all year long. I made two signs: one that says "Welcome" and another that says "Home Sweet Home." But it'll be great to swap in an inspirational quote or a saying that reflect holidays and birthdays, too!
Follow the set-by-step tutorial below to see just how easy this craft is to make at home.
Materials:
1. Measure out twine and hot glue to the wood slice.
2. Next, squirt black chalk paint onto the wood slice.
Paint the center, leaving a narrow rim of natural wood around the edge.
3. After the first coat, paint second coat. Allow to dry.
4. Write your message.
Now it's time to hang it up and enjoy!
This cute project took me 15 minutes to make (and that includes drying time!) It was up and ready to display in no time.
I really love this as a welcome sign as guests enter my home, but it can easily incorporate any message you like.
I've also seen these cute wooden chalkboard signs used at weddings and parties as well, as ways to display on food tables or as decorations. It can truly be customized for any event or occasion all year long!
