If there's one thing I love, it's creative DIY projects that break the mold — literally!
And although I've seen some pretty unique crafts out there — like this bowling ball turned into a beautiful piece of yard art — nothing quite compares to the DIY piece you're about to see.
When this genius DIY-er realized he needed a doorstop, he realized a simple wedge would never do. Instead, he created his very own mold — using his very own foot!
As a teacher, this crafter is always looking for useful and simple inventions that go above and beyond — so when he concocted this amazing doorstop idea, he knew he'd found the perfect project.
Would you ever have such a doorstop in your home, or do you prefer something a little more traditional? Personally, the more unique, the better!

To begin what he calls his "Foot in the Door" project, he mixed together alginate powder and water until it was a pudding-like consistency.
Then, he submerged his foot in the concoction and held it for about 10 minutes, until it began to turn rubbery, and he removed his foot.
He then poured concrete into the mold.
The concrete took about one hour to fully dry.
After the concrete was dry, he peeled away the mold to reveal his concrete foot!
Bit by bit, he removed all of the alginate from the concrete.
The mold captured everything — right down to his toes and toenails!
Every cuticle was captured perfectly.
You can even see the little foot wrinkles and interesting scars.
He used a toothpick to remove the alginate from those hard-to-reach places between the toes.
He used sandpaper to smooth out any odd little bumps.
Next, he added a little gold knob to easily move the foot around his house.
Then he added a few furniture pads to preserve his floors and prevent sliding.
And voila! The perfect conversation-starting doorstop!
A pretty great way to get your foot in the door, don't you think?
