Sometimes we come across little things at garage sales and thrift stores that we just absolutely cannot pass up.
For me, I absolutely love to find old film cameras, or vintage clothing that I can then upcycle.
For Brooke — a very talented DIY-er and owner of the blog Start at Home — she loves French legs on furniture. That's how she came to buy a dresser at a garage sale that had absolutely no drawers, and had to use her imagination to come up with a DIY project to put the gorgeous shape of the dresser to good use.
After the drawer-less dresser sat in her garage for a little while, she realized the dresser's true purpose: to be transformed into a bench!

Brooke found this gorgeous French dresser at a garage sale, completely lacking its drawers. The structure of the furniture was too beautiful to pass up, so she brought it home anyway.
Realizing it could make the perfect bench, Brooke cut out part of the empty drawers. She left a few drawers to serve as storage space.
With the drawer spaces removed, Brooke fortified the remaining shelves with bead board and used planks of wood to create a seat and back for the bench.
She then painted the bottom of the bench a light gray.
The top of the bench she stained a dark brown, and added knick-knacks and treasures to the shelves.
The bench would be the perfect addition to a mudroom or foyer, don't you think?
It certainly takes a lot of imagination to look at an old dresser and see a gorgeous bench!
