Sometimes, DIY projects are just meant to be.
Like this Volkswagen-themed dresser created from a garage sale find, the things we need to complete our greatest DIY projects can fall right into our laps like magic.
When Patty from Home and Lifestyle Design went to a local flea market and saw a lot of benches made from old headboards, she knew she wanted to have one of her own to upgrade her porch.
The problem was, she didn't have an old headboard lying around…
However, the very next morning, Patty found that someone had thrown out the exact item she was looking for — an old headboard, with no footboard or rails, in need of some serious love and DIY care.
Isn't it funny how life sometimes provides us with the exact things we need?

Patty found this headboard that someone had tossed in the trash and new exactly what she wanted to do with it.
The decorative piece in the middle was broken off, but she found it lying beside the headboard.
She found legs for the bench that matched the legs of the headboard almost perfectly.
Patty's husband created the frame for the bench and attached the legs to the front.
Her husband also added slats to the frame to finish the bench while Patty started painting the bench a crisp white.
Her husband was able to reattach the decorative piece to the middle of the headboard.
Patty covered the slats with a comfy seat cushion and a pillow she made herself.
The blue accents on her porch pull out the blue in the cushion design perfectly.
Such a great new home for a headboard that was headed for the trash pile!
