When news broke that the Brady Bunch house had been put up for sale, there was obviously a huge amount of excitement. It's not an understatement to say this is one of the most beloved houses in television history, and the chance to own a piece of Hollywood history appealed to many.
But while news of the sale would have been exciting enough on its own, this story turned into a full-blown drama, complete with mysterious backroom deals, angry pop stars, and a super-powered corporate buyer.

This is the front of the house that captured viewers' imaginations for years. But owning it was going to cost potential buyers a pretty penny: The original listing was nearly $2 million.
What would all that moolah get you? "Featuring perfectly preserved 1970's decor, it boasts one of the largest lots in the neighborhood — over 12,500sqft," reads the listing. "Enormous, lush backyard gardens & lawn, completely private & serene."
But obviously that's not the real reason you buy a house like this. You do it for the prestige and history!
"This iconic residence is reportedly the 2nd most photographed home in the United States after the White House," claims the same listing.
Now the plot thickens — enter Lance Bass.
The NSYNC star made headlines with this Instagram post a few days ago, posing in front of the house and making some aggressive puns about the situation. We'll let him explain what happened:
After being told he'd gotten the house, Lance had the rug pulled out from under him. Admit it: You'd be pretty upset, too.
Is any of this illegal? No. That said, it's totally shady, and Lance's frustration is understandable.
When the story first broke, fans were furious on Lance's behalf.

Just a few days later, the winner of the bid was revealed.
That's right. Our big bad villain is actually HGTV. The channel is famous for transforming homes and documenting every step of the process.
Opinions have been a little all over the place since the news broke, but for the most part, commenters wish that a giant television studio hadn't stuck it to Lance like that.
There's also rampant fear that HGTV will do what HGTV always does: magically transform a run-down house into something contemporary and beautiful. While that's usually great, it's not what most people want to see happen to a piece of Hollywood history.
