Located in Newport, Rhode Island, a First Lutheran Church built in 1895 has served as a home for one artist and his family.
As you're about to see, churches can provide an abundance of inspiration for any artist, as the space comes with its own energy and creative forces.
When Newport began selling many of its buildings, William realized that unconventional living spaces were not only affordable, but also beautiful. So, he bought the church and turned it into his home and art studio. While he was at it, he also bought the town's post office, firehouse, and a synagogue! What a lucky man to breathe new life into this collection of incredible buildings.
William and his wife raised there kids inside the church as he furthered his art career, painting acclaimed portraitures of Newport residents.
I marveled at the authentic entranceway, light-filled grand hall, and even the old pew William kept intact.
While making a home out of an old church may sound crazy to many people, this couple managed to save the structure from deterioration and create something beautiful in the process.
A couple years back, William Heydt put his converted church home up for sale, for $690,000.
