Family Builds A Modern Home From Shipping Containers In The Middle Of The Redwoods

Don't get me wrong, I love living in NYC. Making my way to the office every morning surrounded by skyscrapers and historical landmarks isn't something that ever really gets old.

That said, I do still pine for my mom's little house in the woods of Oklahoma. When my parents moved there after I graduated college, I was sad to see my childhood home go, but I couldn't deny the appeal of making a home out in that scenic serenity.

Over in the Redwood Forests in northern California, married couple Kam Kasravi and Connie Dewitt found a way to blend modern style without disturbing the natural oasis as they built their own wooden getaway out of shipping containers.

The material might seem a bit odd, but they aren't the first to discover how affordable and chic the industrial items can be when applied to home design. Thanks to some help from an architect friend, the parents spent only about $50 per square foot for their beautiful home.

In the video below, Kam and Connie take us through each room discussing all of the incredible elements that make the eight-foot wide rectangles feel like wide open spaces. One of the keys to making sure they never feel cramped was allowing plenty of natural light to flow through.

I personally think this makes any huge mansion pale in comparison! Just imagine waking up every morning and being greeted by these gorgeous views.

They even managed to accommodate eight rowdy boys when their son brought some friends over for a sleepover.

Take a look, and be sure to SHARE this amazing abode with your loved ones!
