Transform Your Hall Closet Into A Fabulous And Functional Mudroom

Growing up, my mom would constantly have to remind me to take off my shoes before coming into the house. But no matter how hard she tried, I inevitably tracked my fair share of mud inside.

My house definitely could have used a mudroom to give guests (and overzealous kids) a place to take off their shoes before coming in. And when I spotted this incredible DIY mudroom, I knew I'd found one that my mom would love.

This amazing home upgrade comes from Imgur user BUMilksteak, whose wife and mother-in-law transformed their front closet into a stunning mudroom while he was away for the weekend.

Not only is this a useful idea for any household, like this DIY doily light fixture, but these brilliant ladies were able to add a fresh element to their home, one that is sure to impress any visitor!

When this Imgur user went out of town for the weekend, he had no idea just what his wife and mother-in-law had in store for their front hall closet.

The closet started out looking anything but spectacular.

However, these ladies decided to give it an overhaul by adding shelving and a bench, complete with pillows and a bench cushion.

For the pillows and cushion, they picked out a fun and vibrant material.

The fabric choice would later add some much-needed color to their fabulous and functional new mudroom.

For the bench itself, they used traditional plywood, and began with a simple base.

They used the same plywood for the bench top, and painted the entire thing white.

To upgrade the nook itself, they installed beadboard along the back, giving it some lovely texture.

These DIY-ers then added sturdy wood shelving for storage up top, and their brand-new bench down below.

They attached wrought iron hooks to the wall, and put their beautiful pillows and cushion in place.

The last step was to simply put the mudroom to use. With plenty of basket storage up top and cubby storage down below, these crafty ladies made great use of their former closet!

The contrast between the "before" and "after" shows just how impressive this closet-to-mudroom transformation truly was!
