Plastic Juice Containers Transform Into A Gorgeous Hanging Lamp

To most folks, empty plastic orange juice containers are simply pieces of waste that linger in the recycling bin for days on end.

However, for Instructables upcycler ideamateria, these plastic jugs were the start to a beautifully decorative hanging lamp fixture project.

This DIY-er saved around 20 plastic bottles, and gave each a thorough rinse, before cutting them all in half.

She then, slowly but surely, began stitching each plastic jug top to the next until they formed a one-of-a-kind light fixture.

Finished with a single light bulb, these plastic containers came back to life in a new and interesting way.

With an active, upcycler's mind at work, most anything can become part of a decorative lamp. While most folks would have tossed out these plastic bottles, this upcycler found a new way to repurpose them into something useful and fun.

Scroll through below to see how she transformed items as quintessential as plastic orange juice jugs into this awesome, decorative light fixture.

After Instructables DIY-er ideamateria finished her last jug of orange juice, the fun really began.

This upcycler had been collecting around 20 plastic jugs, planning to transform them into an amazing new light fixture.

Her first step was to thoroughly wash each jug, eliminating any unwanted surface residue.

Next, she cut each bottle in half, and began joining the tops halves together with zip ties.

She made sure each zip tie enclosure was on the inside of the fixture, creating a fluid design.

She continued joining these bottle tops together, piece by piece, until the entire shape came to a close.

Once the outer structure was complete, it was time to light this lamp up.

She chose a bulb that wouldn't melt or damage the plastic.

To preserve the fixture’s cohesive look, this upcycler threaded a bottle top around the light bulb’s base.

This tactic enabled the cord to seamlessly emerge from the fixture — as if it had been destined to connect to her design all along.

This upcycler then hung her awesome new fixture, prepping it for its final touch.

She added colored caps back onto each bottleneck to give the fixture exciting pops of color.

Thanks to this DIY-er’s crafty instincts, these plastic jugs have completely transformed into an entirely new and exciting light fixture.
