The Girl In The Middle Had A Dream. It Took 103 Years, But It FINALLY Came True

For some people, their high school years were some of the best, full of great friends, cool parties, and first loves. It was a treasured time they look back on fondly.

For others, high school was a nightmare, full of horrible acne, terrible bullies, and piles of homework. They couldn't escape quickly enough.

But for some people, like Marie Hunt, high school was a dream they could never fulfill…

In today's time, when the importance of education is paramount, it's hard to believe there was a time in which education wasn't compulsory. But in the early 1920s, when Marie was just a girl, she was forced to make a decision she would always regret.

However, one kind person is about to change all that. After 87 years, Marie's dream has finally come true.

After reading through her story, be sure to watch her interview below. It brought me to tears!

Marie Hunt of Spring Green, WI would have received her high school diploma in 1928. However, when she was unable to commute to her school, which was located six miles from her family's home, Marie was forced to drop out of eighth grade.

Though she wanted to pursue her education, Marie was never able to return. Instead, she stayed home to help raise her eight other siblings.

Though she went on to live a very long and happy life, Marie always wished she could go back and earn her diploma. When she voiced that wish, her nurse, Debra, sprang into action...

With the help of the community and Marie's social worker, Debra arranged something very special: a high school graduation, 87 years delayed.

In front of friends and family, Marie was awarded an honorary diploma from River Valley High School, the school from which she would have received her education.

"It is my great honor, as a high school principal, to be presenting you with your honorary high school diploma," said principal Kimbert Kaukl during the ceremony.

To the music of "Pomp and Circumstance," Marie joyfully moved her tassel from right to left. It was a proud moment for the 103-year-old.
