It's every parent's worst nightmare: In the middle of the night there's a fire.
You rush to get out the house, then you realize, your children are still in there.
A mother's worst fear came true in Maryland, but thanks to her brave 13-year-old son, Marcus, everyone is safe.
This story reminds me of when 6-year-old Victoria Pierro saved her family from a fire!
“I turned on my phone flashlight and I couldn’t really see nothing, and it was all smoky,” Marcus told ABC News.
“So, that’s when I said, ‘I have to do something.’ So I called and … [made] sure I was good myself, then checked on Aaliyah and kept talking to the dispatcher.”
He called 911 and stayed on the phone for 11 whole minutes. His 9-year-old sister, Aaliyah, was panicked, but he didn’t give in to his fears.
Marcus carefully followed the directions of the emergency operator.
"Aaliyah stay low to the door. Come here. Breathe. Stay right here," Marcus says to his younger sister in the recorded emergency call.
The phone call is chilling, but hearing this young man's courageous response to a truly terrifying and dangerous situation is astonishing.
I'm much older and I don't know how I'd respond to such a high-pressure emergency.
All I know is that his family is clearly eternally grateful to young Marcus.
SHARE if you're proud to see siblings sticking up for each other.
