16-Year-Old Cheer Captain Stabbed To Death By Fellow Student During High School Parade

A horrific tragedy just unfolded during a high school parade in New York. The incident involved three teens and resulted in one fatality.

Junior varsity cheerleading captain Kayla Green was killed with a knife during celebrations at Mount Vernon High School over the boys basketball team winning the state championship.

Another student, a 15-year-old girl, was also stabbed. She was rushed to the hospital and survived the attack.

Another teen has been arrested in the stabbing. The suspect is a 15-year-old girl whose identity is not being revealed due to her age. She was arrested and charged with three felonies: manslaughter in the first degree, attempted assault in the first degree, and assault in the second degree.

According to Westchester County District Attorney Mimi Rocah, the incident took place around 4 p.m., about an hour into the parade. It occurred on Gramatan Avenue in Mount Vernon.

Lavern Gordon is the mother of the victim. She shared an utterly heartbreaking photo of her daughter in the hospital, as she lay dying. In part, she captioned the image, "I don’t even know how to say RIP to my daughter this feels so unreal God why meeeeeeeeee why meeee Lord, my daughter don’t bother ppl her mother don’t bother no one evenly Father why me I just want to die."

In another post, she wrote, "Somebody please tell that girl to come and kill me too I want to bury with my daughter god please take me with her I don't want to live no more they took my baby away from me."

A motive in the attack is not yet known, but prosecutors told the court that the 15-year-old had shown off the knife earlier that day on social media. They said the attack happened about a block from the parade. A nearby police officer saw the altercation taking place and tried to intervene, but the teen was stabbed in her back and side before he could help.

A GoFundMe has been set up for the family of Kayla Green.
