Luan was born with a large mass on his face that only gotten worse with time.
The abnormally large growth formed because Luan was also born with a hole in his skull. Instead of his brain tissue growing correctly inside of a structure, it protruded outward and started putting pressure on his eyes, forcing them apart.
His mom took him to doctors who refused to perform a surgery. They didn't know enough, and the local medical help was clearly never going to be able to fix his life.
So his mom made a plea on their local news. Her prayers were answered by a doctor who saw her story. But this wasn't going to be an easy task, and there were many life-threatening risks.
Specialists would have to remove Luan's brain, fix the hole, preserve the good brain tissue, and then put everything back together correctly in order for the surgery to be a success.
There were complications along the way, but Luan proved to be one of the strongest 2-year-olds in the world. His mass was removed, and today, you can see his big beautiful eyes right above his smile.
These stories are sometimes heartbreaking to watch, but seeing them end with a happy child is the only thing we could ever ask for!
