Man Commits Crime To Propose To Girlfriend. 28 Years Later, He’s About To Confess

The story and video below are about a confession, one that was nearly 30 years in the making.

On September 12, 1989, in Boca Raton, Florida, Frank Mckinney blindfolded his girlfriend, Nilsa, and drove her to a water tower.

All the while, Nilsa had no idea that Frank, whom she had dated for about two years, had broken the law.

With Nilsa still blindfolded, he led her to a spot in front of the tower.

When she was free of the blindfold, she saw a massive banner on the top of the water tower with a message that read "Nilsa, will you marry me?

In fact, armed with the 20-foot-long banner in hand, Frank had trespassed onto private property and climbed to the top of the 130-foot tower. Then, using the help of some neighbors, he rented a huge spotlight to highlight the message.

"He said, 'If you don't say yes, I'm going back up there.' And I was like, 'Oh! Oh! Oh! Yes! Yes! Yes!'" Nilsa recalled.

"Dressed up like an Army guy, in fatigues and camouflage. I had black things under my eyes," he recounted. "This was like a military operation to me. I was so sincere about going out and buying these clothes and then drafting the neighbors into service."

At the time, the event gained attention from the media and police, with everyone in a frenzy trying to figure out who had done it.

No one ever discovered that it was Frank… until now.

Nearly three decades later, the tower is being demolished. Frank felt that it was finally time for his confession.

"On Sept. 12, 1989, I scaled a barbed wire fence with a 20-foot long banner. Climbed 130 feet to the top, with a marriage proposal to my wife," he said. "If the police are watching, I plead for your mercy, leniency."
