If you're anything like me, there's not much more important to you than sleep.
A good night of sleep isn't just beneficial for those of us who are especially cranky in the morning, sleep is essential for every person's health and wellbeing. If you've ever had a night of tossing and turning, followed by a day of complete misery, you already know just how necessary it is to feel your best.
However, for many people, falling fast asleep and staying asleep all night until your alarm goes off (or until your furry best friend wakes you up) is way easier said than done. Luckily, the doctor in this next video claims to have figured out the best method to relax your body and mind, so you can fall asleep quickly and stay asleep longer.
In the following video, Dr. Andrew Weil explains his "4-7-8" breathing technique, which he claims "takes almost no time, requires no equipment, and can be done anywhere." The method is based on the same idea as regulating your breath in yoga for complete relaxation. To complete the technique, Weil explains that you breath out completely, making a "whooshing" sound, followed by breathing in through the nose for four seconds. Next, Weil instructs to hold breath for seven seconds, following by breathing out again through the mouth for eight seconds.
If the sequence feels a little complicated or confusing, don't be thrown off. The doctor says it takes practice to get it perfect and for best possible results, it should be done at least twice a day. Since it only takes about 30 seconds to complete, you really don't have anything to lose!
