In 2014, a children's choir gave a married couple the most spectacular 50th anniversary surprise of all time. But first, let's rewind a bit…
Every year on their wedding anniversary, Gregg Breinberg's mom forces his dad to serenade her with "Tonight At The Prom" by The Shirelles.
Gregg also happens to be the musical director of the elementary school chorus from Public School 22 in Staten Island, NY. So, at the chorus' winter concert, Gregg put together a brilliant surprise: He had the talented PS22 choir secretly learn his parents' special song! The kids pulled the performance off brilliantly, and it truly made for a "golden" moment that Gregg says he and his family will never forget. As soon as his mom realizes what song the kids are singing, her reaction gave me goosebumps. These kids are so incredible!
The chorus was founded in 2000 by Gregg, the school's music teacher and director. Since then, they have become an internet phenomenon. Their videos have been seen more than 65,000,000 times, though the video below hasn't gone viral…yet!
The PS22 Chorus, which is composed of 60–70 fifth-graders, draws students from a wide cross section of ethnic groups and socio-economic levels. It has performed with many famous musical acts, such as Katie Perry and Carrie Underwood, and has even performed at the Academy Awards. We've seen inspirational children's choirs before, but never like this.
