For motorists who are stuck on the highway wallowing in rush hour traffic, sometimes it feels like they're going to be stuck in that purgatory until the end of time.
But just when they're on the verge of losing all hope, they suddenly notice a rather large flash of yellow jumping around in their peripheral vision. As they glance over, they notice a 6-foot banana man dancing on his Segway. Any anger directed at the car in front of them instantly dissipates, they'll crack a smile, and suddenly the traffic begins to flow again. Well, at least that's one outcome that's been popping up lately, as you'll see in the video below.
That large banana man has a special story. The man inside of the costume is Matt Birr; he was in stationed in Afghanistan, and one infamous day in 2009, an enemy attack nearly left him dead. A bullet sheared through his head, which resulted in nearly half of his skull needing to be surgically removed.
When he returned home, the injury left Matt unable to work. While many would be disheartened by that news, Matt took it all in stride: He began to collect more and more costumes in order to entertain passing motorists on their way to and from work.
While Matt still has emotional and physical injuries to overcome, these costumes are helping him cope with the pain and heal himself.
"So I don't feel worthless… If I put a smile on your face, then my job is done," said the veteran.
So if you happen to see a man on a Segway in a banana costume, give him a wave or a salute, because it might just be the man who fought for our country.
Please SHARE this beautiful story if you wish for Matt the very best!
