17-Year-Old Dies From Injury After 911 Operator Angrily Hangs Up The Phone

When 17-year-old Jaydon Chavez was struck from the bullet of a drive-by shooter, his closest friend applied pressure on the wound and immediately called 911 for help.

Just about everyone knows that when there's an emergency, you dial those three numbers. Since we were children we were taught to respect that number and only use it for life-and-death situations.

Chavez was struggling to stay alive as his friend was struggling to remain calm; when the 911 operator, Matthew Sanchez, answered, her mind was not in the clearest of places, so when the operator began to ask questions, she was understandably flustered.

"Is he breathing?" Sanchez questioned, to which the young woman angrily yelled, "he's barely breathing!" followed by some expletive language. While cursing at anyone isn't the nicest thing to do, of all the moments to be a bit out of control, this seems to make the most sense.

However, 911 operators are trained to stay cool, calm, and collected; their sole job is to keep the person talking and to calm them down as they await any dispatched aid, as well as giving safety instructions to increase their survivability chances.

Unfortunately, when this particular 911 operator got cussed out by this horrified young woman, who was holding her dying friend's hand, the only thing he could say was: "You could deal with it yourself. I'm not going to deal with this, OK?" before he angrily hung up on the pleading woman.

Chavez died that night, and his friends, family, and the whole community are left wondering what would have happened if that operator had stayed on the line and been a bit more helpful. In emergencies like this, every second counts, and that operator could very well have helped prevent the death of an innocent teenager.

The operator has since been removed as an internal investigation is underway. Do you think he should be held somewhat responsible for the death of that poor teen? Let us know in the comments below!
