Bob Lowe had become lonely after his wife of 65 years passed away three years ago. Holding tightly to memories of their long-lasting marriage, the 93-year-old decided to pay tribute to her by writing a beautiful poem entitled "An Ode to Kath."
Appearing on the 5 Live Breakfast show on BBC Radio, Lowe read his heartfelt poem which touches on his loneliness, as he waits to be reunited with his wife in the afterlife. (Listen to the recording below.)
This one will tug at your heartstrings, so make sure you have some tissues close by. Below is the full, original poem. (*Note: there are some minor differences between Bob's published and spoken versions of the same poem.)
"An Ode to Kath"
I am alone, now I know it's true
There was a time when we were two
Those were the days when we would chat
Doing little jobs of this and that
We'd go to the shops and select our meals
But now I'm alone I know how it feels
To try and cook or buy meals on wheels
The rooms are empty and I feel quite lost
As I wander round
To look for jobs that I can do
To bring back the days when we were two
When darkness falls and curtains drawn
That's when I feel most forlorn
But I'm not quite alone and here's the proof
Because beside me in her chair
She quietly waits our time to share
Kath said to me years ago
Darling when the time comes for us to go
Can we mix our ashes and be together
And snuggle up forever and ever.
