Activated charcoal, in pill or capsule form, has long been used by doctors to help people rid their bodies of unwanted substances (like toxins and poisons). It absorbs the undesirable substances and then helps move them through the body.
Using activated charcoal on your teeth works similarly — it draws out unwanted stains and removes toxins!
How To Use Activated Charcoal For Your Teeth
Although you can buy pre-made activated charcoal toothpaste, most people suggest using the charcoal in powder form.
One way to use this is to add it to your regular toothpaste. But we're going to dive into how to use activated charcoal on its own — all you need is a toothbrush and a little water!
Step #1: Open The Capsules And Pour The Powder In A Bowl
Most charcoal powders will come in capsule form, since they are usually ingested.
All you have to do is carefully twist or pull apart the capsules, pouring the charcoal into a small bowl.
Make sure you have enough charcoal to dip your toothbrush into.
Step #2: Thoroughly Wet Your Toothbrush
Before you dip your toothbrush into the activated charcoal, wet it under the tap.
Make sure the toothbrush is wet enough to pick up some of the charcoal powder, but not so wet that water is still dripping off the toothbrush.
Step #3: Dip Your Toothbrush Into Charcoal Powder
Turn your toothbrush over and dip it lightly into the activated charcoal powder.
Try to cover the entire brush in charcoal powder — the more the better!
Step #4: Brush Normally For 2-3 Minutes
Next, brush your teeth normally.
At first, the charcoal might feel powdery in your mouth, but it will become more of a paste once you start brushing.
The powder will turn your mouth a dark black color, but don't worry — it will definitely wash out!
Step #5: Spit Into A Cup Instead Of The Sink
While you're brushing, periodically spit into a cup.
It might seem gross, but spitting into a cup instead of spitting into the sink will make it much easier to clean up at the end.
Step #6: Rinse Your Mouth Thoroughly
Once you're done brushing, rinse out your mouth with water until all the charcoal is gone.
It may take a few rinses, but, soon enough, all the black powder will be gone.
You can spit this water into the same cup, or you can spit in the sink if you have too much water in your mouth.
Step #7: Clean Residue In Sink With Baby Wipe
After you're done brushing and rinsing, pour the spit cup down the drain.
Then grab a baby wipe to clean up any powder you may have spilled or any residue that is in the sink.
Step #8: Repeat For 3-5 Days
Mama Natural recommends using activated charcoal for 3 to 5 days to whiten your teeth, then not again for a few months.
You should notice that your teeth are whiter after the few days of using the charcoal!
