Daughter Goes On Stage, But Doesn’t Know Deployed Dad Is Behind The Curtain

When kids are growing up, so much can happen over small periods of time. Aaron Blake, an Air Force dad deployed in Qatar for six months, knows the feeling all too well.

The father from Los Angeles feels like he has missed out on a chunk of his daughter Sadie's life.

"Six months is a long time in child years and memories I've missed out on. And just being home is just great," Aaron told KSLA News.

The 8-year-old girl is in second grade at Riverside Elementary school. On her birthday, she also celebrated her first time on the academic honor roll. The little one was called onstage to receive her honor roll certificate, but little did she know there was a surprise behind the curtains.

"I miss him so much," Sadie said of her dad before she found out he was there all along.

She stood in front of the orange curtains while the school announced that a very special guest would be giving her the certificate. The curtains opened up and it took Sadie a second to realize who was holding her prize.

Then she screamed "Daddy!" and jumped right into his arms.

"I didn't know he was coming today," said Sadie.

"It's the best birthday gift, right?" her father asked.

"Yes, it was!" she exclaimed.
