Everyone knows Albert Einstein. His theories and quotes have helped shaped the scientific landscape, and he is hailed as one of the greatest — if not the greatest — minds the world has ever encountered. Everyone knows his famous theory of relativity, but recently, another one of his theories resurfaced in the form of a handwritten note.
In 1922 Albert stayed in a hotel in Japan. He interacted with a bellboy before realizing that he had no cash to tip him with.
Coincidentally, it was while in Asia that he learned he had won a Nobel Prize. The idea of his growing fame is what motivated him to do what he did next.
Albert wrote two notes for the bellboy.
According to Gal Wiener, CEO of the auction house at which the two notes were eventually sold, Albert told the bellboy, "Maybe if you're lucky those notes will become much more valuable than just a regular tip."
Well, those two notes resurfaced, and they've recently sold for a whopping $1.7 million!

Quotes said and written by the genius Albert Einstein are known the world over, but recently a new one surfaced — and it details his thoughts on true happiness!
While traveling through Japan in 1922, Albert stayed at a hotel where the now-infamous note was written.
When it was time to tip a bellboy at the hotel, Albert realized he didn't have any cash on him. He had to do the best with what he had.
Instead of cash, he gave the bellboy two notes. One of them held Albert's key to a happy life.
Apparently, he told the bellboy "maybe if you're lucky those notes will become much more valuable than just a regular tip."
Written in German, the note reads: "A calm and modest life brings more happiness than the pursuit of success combined with constant restlessness."
The second note's message is much more recognizable: "Where there's a will, there's a way."
Incredibly, the notes were found and placed on auction, where they immediately racked up a host of bids!
In the end, the two notes sold for a total of $1.7 million!
