Sometimes being a little different can be a good thing.
The world is a wonderful place because each and every person on this great planet brings their own uniqueness to the table. What might seem strange to one person is beautiful to another, and we here at LittleThings are all about embracing our differences. While having a physical or mental disability can be a real struggle for so many people, I always find that these people have the most amazing stories to tell.
When it comes to accepting others, two groups of people who always seem to run into controversy for being inclusive of only good-looking, wealthy types are sororities and fraternities. However, all that is about to change thanks to one brave woman who decided to put in her bid at the Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority branch at Murray State University.
In the following clip from The Meredith Vieira Show, we learn about a trailblazing young co-ed who just became the first woman with Down syndrome to join a sorority. When 22-year-old Alexis Cain told her mother she wanted to join a sorority, she was understandably worried about her daughter getting up her hopes, but she was in for a beautiful surprise. The Murray State sorority girls decided to accept Alexis into their exclusive group because she shared the same values as they did, not because they thought it was the right thing to do. Even though she's a disabled woman, they treated her as an equal, a move that will hopefully encourage more groups to do the same.
When Alexis says she finally has the sisters she's always wanted in the following video, my heart just melted. She's a true inspiration!
Please SHARE Alexis's amazing story with all of your friends on Facebook!
