There are few things in life as painful as losing your memory. We often hear about what it’s like for the loved ones of the person suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, but what about the people who actually have to live that experience? What is it like to forget what you ate only hours before, or the name of your beloved childhood pet?
In this video, an interviewer prompts several people to recall the moments that they don’t ever want to let go of. How did that time shape them as individuals? What do they remember about that day and how it led up to certain events? Perhaps by starting the conversation about Alzheimer’s and, more importantly, by keeping that discussion going, we can finally find the cure to this horrific disease.
Some memories shared by those interviewed were touching, while others were utterly heartbreaking. I almost felt a little uncomfortable hearing some of the more intimate moments in their lives, but also very privileged to hear them shared at all. We want to be remembered as desperately as we want to remember ourselves, and that’s part of what makes us all human.
I highly recommend that you read through these symptoms and preventative tips for Alzheimer’s. Let’s keep talking about this and never stop!
