The day your child is born is a day you'll remember for the rest of your life.
Usually, it's because of the ultimate joy and happiness that comes to a family when they get to hold their baby in their arms for the first time. And every day thereafter.
But, sometimes, there are more extenuating reasons for this day being so memorable — something not so positive, but devastating instead.
The Andres family experienced that devastation. Monica and Dale had their baby girl Amelie and took her home to start their lives together as a family.
But, only eight days later, they had to bring her into the emergency room after her breathing was irregular. When the doctors finished their initial tests, their fear became reality.
Their baby Amelie had to go into a surgery that she might not survive. She was born with five major heart defects, leaving open heart surgery as the 8-day-old's only option.
If she were to survive, the doctors thought she would be severely impaired for the rest of their life. But, much to the family's and doctors' surprise, that didn't happen. Amelie survived the surgery, and although she has a continuous struggle, she continues to beat the odds.
Just like that beautiful baby Madison, the initial diagnosis does not always determine a baby's fate!
