As someone who frequently falls over for absolutely no reason at all, just pure clumsiness inherited from generations of uncoordinated ancestors, I am endlessly impressed by anyone who can train themselves to move their bodies in incredible ways. Watching the Olympics is a mesmerizing and baffling experience to say the least. Despite my natural shortcomings, I did attempt a dance and gymnastics class or two in my youth. After a few weeks at each, I quietly bowed out and resigned to a life as a spectator. Not that I mind, of course!
I could watch routines from talented performers like Anna Bessanova or Sophina DeJesus all day long. The same goes for the extremely skilled young woman in the video below. As a cheerleader, a sport that doesn't receive nearly as much acclaim as it deserves, she has broken world records with her gravity defying tumble drills.
Honestly, how does a human body do something this insane without the help of wires or CGI film tricks to pull it off? Like other gymnasts and cheerleaders I've seen plenty of times, Angel Rice performs a series of flips, spins, and leaps essentially flying through the air as she makes her way across the floor. But where most routines end, Rice is only just getting started. She continues to work her way back to her original spot and continues further with one final, breathtaking spin.
I've watched it several times now and I still can't wrap my mind around how Rice manages this amazing display.
