It’s difficult to imagine a life without one of your senses, unless you’ve experienced it yourself.
We so often take our vision, hearing, and even mobility for granted, not remembering how lucky we are to be healthy. Nowadays, amazing technology like the “Second Sight” bionic eye can help the blind see again — but for blind people of underdeveloped countries, there is very little hope.
For the entirety of their young lives, two sisters in India had been blind, until a 15-minute surgery let them see for the very first time.
In the following video, we meet 12-year-old Sonia and 6-year-old Anita. They were born blind into impoverished circumstances and would have never escaped their fate of being beggars, until an amazing organization heard their heartbreaking true story. The young girls’ father could work day and night and still never be able to afford the surgery to change his daughters’ fate.
The nonprofit 20/20/20 stepped in to perform the surgeries, which cost only $300 in charitable donations for both girls. Now, these young sisters have the opportunity to educate themselves, work, start a family, and live freely. The first time these girls can see their surroundings is truly incredible.
