As a little girl, there wasn't much that I enjoyed more than going to my weekly gymnastics class. Of course, being only about 4 years old at the time, it was mostly just jumping around and diving into pools filled with foam. I quit around the time the training started getting super serious, but I still managed to perform in one recital alongside our special guest: Kermit the Frog. One of the highlights of my life, for sure.
Other gymnasts, however, have the drive to continue to tone their bodies into incredible athletes. Watching the Olympics, I can't help but stare in awe as they glide with grace around the mats and expertly spin themselves around the bars. Sometimes I get dizzy just watching them!
While I enjoy all of the events, my favorite is definitely when they do rhythmic floor routines with beautiful ribbons. I've seen so many over the years, but when I came across this number by Anna Bessonova, it was like seeing it all for the first time again.
Bessonova performed her routine at the 2008 World Cup where, not surprisingly, she racked up quite a few medals for herself. Fifteen medals, to be exact! She also earned a bronze medal at the 2009 Beijing Olympics. The way she moves around the mat, guiding her ribbon as she tosses it in the air, it almost looks like the work of CGI magic. But that's just how good she is!
