A man named Anthony Woodward, from Longtown, Oklahoma, was absolutely heartbroken when he learned his home had completely burned down to ashes in a wildfire. Despite his devastation and countless questions that could never be answered, a surprising discovery changed his perspective completely.
In the video below, posted on March 21, 2017, a teary-eyed Anthony asks, "Why me? Why? Why us? But, it is what it is."
He recalls the moment he returned home to see his charred house for the first time. He says, "When I came back, it was…. Pretty much looked like a square fire pit with flames, and it was heart wrenching."
While examining the grounds, he remembers his wife telling him about a safe firebox they owned. It turns out, she put his wedding ring inside of it before they had to evacuate their burning home.
He searches through the rubble with that one thing in mind. As he sifts through piles of black soot, he finally stumbles upon the firebox, but it had disintegrated in the flames along with all of their important documents inside.
Then, he starts digging around on a whim.
Eventually, he plucks out his wedding ring, making for a real miracle. He sees that it had survived the natural disaster, but ended up tarnished due to the intense heat. Luckily, Anthony sees this as a blessing. In fact, he seems glad that the ring looks the way it does.
The emotional husband announces, "This ring will remain tarnished until the day I die, just as a reminder to myself that anything can survive. I mean, if this ring can survive that fire, my marriage can survive anything."
