When Phil LeClerc of Weymouth, MA spent $40 for an antique desk, he had no idea he was about to make an unbelievably shocking discovery. He hauled off the old Governor Winthrop desk, brought it back to his home, and began working on restoring the old piece.
This style of desk is well-known for its hidden drawers and secret hideaways. It's understandable, even in today's world, that some desks were designed to hide objects and parchments from prying eyes, much like the $1.5 million dollar desk that was owned by three European rulers during the Enlightenment!
So when LeClerc was staining and cleaning his new piece of furniture, he pulled out a hidden drawer, and when an envelope suddenly flopped out, he was understandably excited.
But when he opened that old envelope, he was in for the shock of a lifetime. A collection of matured U.S. savings bonds in denominations of $500, $1,000, and $10,000 were stashed inside. In total, the whole wad of papers equalled out to $127,000 — all hidden away in a $40 desk! Now that's a wise investment!
But just when you thought this incredible news story couldn't get any crazier, it's what LeClerc did right after his amazing discovery that's got so many people singing his praises. It's stories like these that will restore your faith in the goodness of humanity! Just incredible!
