Ariana Grande and Jimmy Fallon's duets have become the stuff of legend, and their latest performance — an unconventional rendition of her latest single — did not disappoint.
On Monday night's episode of The Tonight Show, Grande enlisted the help of Fallon and the Roots for an extra-special acoustic version of"No Tears Left To Cry": They played the entire song on cardboard Nintendo Labo instruments, with Fallon on the "guitar" and Questlove rocking out on a so-called Robot Kit. Doesn't get much more acoustic than that.
Their avant-garde "instruments" didn't keep them from bringing down the house, however (Grande's ability to nail every single note surely helped). The 24-year-old singer and Fallon couldn't help but crack up (as Fallon does) at one point in the middle of the song, but they manage to pull it together to finish the jam with a flourish.
"No Tears Left To Cry" is the first single off Grande's upcoming album Sweetener, which includes collabs with Pharell on tracks called "The Light is Coming," "Raindrops," "R.E.M.," and "God is a Woman," Billboard reported. Notably, "No Tears Left To Cry" is the first track Grande has released since a terror attack killed nearly two dozen people at her May 2017 concert in Manchester, England. She organized a benefit show in the wake of the tragedy and has since been named an honorary citizen of the city.
Sweetener is "kind of about bringing light to a situation or to someone’s life or somebody else brings life to your life. Sweetening the situation," Grande had explained on Fallon's late-night talk show earlier this month.
Besides revealing that it will drop sometime this summer, Grande has remained tight-lipped about Sweetener. Until then, you can satisfy your sweet tooth by watching the video below on repeat.
