I love looking back at my favorite celebrities and seeing what they were like before they became famous. Stumbling across gems like Harrison Ford's old carpenter buddy sharing a hunky photo of the actor in his pre–Star Wars days always puts a smile on my face. Of course, Ford's shirtless and scruffy-faced look doesn't hurt, either!
Another well-known action star who regularly spent his time before Hollywood without a shirt on, or much else for that matter, was none other than Arnold Schwarzenegger. The impressive muscleman earned the nickname "Austrian Oak" during his time as a bodybuilder in reflection of his particularly sturdy and stocky frame. At only 14 years old, Schwarzenegger began his weight training; after a few years, his muscles helped him to earn the title of Mr. Universe three consecutive years in a row, from 1967 to 1969.
He is still commended for his groundbreaking rise in the industry, and even has an annual competition named in his honor. While Schwarzenegger has of course gone on to tackle many other jobs as an actor and a politician, he will always have a soft place in his heart for the sport that gave him his first opportunity in the spotlight. In the clip below, you can see a fresh-faced Schwarzenegger strutting his stuff in both the 1966 and 1969 Universe competitions.
It's an amazing glimpse at the young stud just a few years before he made his move to America to break into showbiz.
