I've never seen anything like this before! Arthur Boorman was a disabled veteran for 15 years. After fighting in the Gulf War, doctors told him that he would never be able to walk on his own again.
One day he read an article about Diamond Dallas Page doing yoga. Yes, because even pro wrestlers are total yogis! Boorman knew he couldn't exercise in traditional ways so he tried doing yoga Dallas' way.
Boorman emailed Dallas, and the wrestler became enamored by his journey. He encouraged Boorman to keep going, even when doctors told him his efforts were futile.
The video below documents that journey. Boorman tries to stand and literally falls over flat on his face. It's hard to watch; anyone who has done yoga knows that starting isn't easy, but starting when your body is at a disadvantage is even harder.
But Boorman never gave up. His body got stronger and stronger. The man who once struggled to stand up can now do handstands with ease. No one expected this transformation, not Boorman or Dallas. But it was all achieved with yoga.
While many stereotypes persist that yoga is only for those who are already athletic or thin, yogis like Boorman and Jessamyn Stanley, a plus-size yogi making waves on the internet, show yoga is for anyone with a mat.
I urge you to watch this video all the way through. The ending just solidifies the power of yoga in the face of adversity, disability and disappointment.
