Ashley Bermudez is only 11 years old and has already dealt with a traumatic experience that most of us hope to never have to experience.
She was home alone when three burglars broke into her house. She immediately backed into a closet and hid as she called 911.
Michelle Fernandez was the dispatcher on the other end of the line, and she says that Ashley followed all of the instructions and stayed calm better than most adults.
Eventually, though, the burglars made their way to the room Ashley was in. They broke down the closet door, and you can hear Ashley's pleas with them on the audio below. It's heartbreaking to hear, but it seems that it might have worked.
Thankfully, it was as if the intruders were startled by her, and they left after realizing someone was there. However, they took $13,000 worth of stolen items.
Shortly after they disappeared from her home, though, they showed up on a busy road and crashed their getaway car.
It seems Ashley may have saved hers and others' lives that day. Although I'm sure she wishes she never had to deal with this kind of situation, she's proved to be a strong and smart young girl!
