Players Suddenly Drop To The Dirt On Live TV When They See Bee Swarm Surrounding Them

Baseball is considered to be America's pastime. It is a game that transcends sports, where men, women, and children can sit back, relax, and enjoy the spectacle. But though the game is very heavy on its traditions, every once in a while, something crazy happens! And "crazy" can be one of the words used to describe what occurred during a game between the San Diego Padres and the Colorado Rockies.

On March 30, 2017, the two teams were playing a spring training game out in Peoria, Arizona, when the chaos ensued.

It was in the middle of the ninth inning, with the game practically in the bag for the Rockies. Suddenly, umpire Alex Tosi raised his arms to halt the game.

This was in response to a massive swarm of bees that had just invaded the field!

The stadium announcer told the crowd to steer clear, but there was nowhere for the players to go.

First, San Diego Padres' pitcher Trey Wingenter stepped off the mound and took a knee when the swarm got close.

Then, on live TV, the camera caught the moment the swarm enveloped the entire infield, forcing Trey, Rockies batter Daniel Castro, and even Alex the umpire to all hit the deck in unison!

The players remained flat on their backs until the bee swarm decided it was done with baseball for the day and moved on.

One thing is for sure: it's not every day you see something like that on TV!
